Update On 192-Acre North Jersey Wildfire: State Remains Under Stage 3 Fire Restriction (Photos)

A 192-acre wildfire that erupted in North Jersey this weekend has been 90% contained, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said.

The fire broke out Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26 along Route 10 near Mount Pleasant Avenue and Eisenhower Parkway in Livingston. The fire was initially reported to be 70 acres threatening 48 structures then grew to 120 acres, and finally 192, the NJFFS said.

As of Sunday night, the fire had been 90% contained.

Smoke is expected to remain present until significant rain falls over the fire area, the NJFFS said.

Last weekend, firefighters battled the Microwave Wildfire in Morris County.

New Jersey remains under a Stage 3 fire restriction due to an increased risk of fire spread on Sunday, Oct. 27, the NJFFS said (click here for more on a Stage 3 fire restriction).

"Relative humidity values this afternoon will drop to 20 to 30 percent across much of the area," the agency said. "Winds will be lighter compared to yesterday, coming from the north to northwest around 5 to 10 mph, turning west in the afternoon with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s and abundant sunshine."
